"J.W. STEWARD, Retired Bus Driver, Stricken"
James W. STEWARD, 74, of 220 Taylor Rd., retired streetcar and city bus operator who made thousands of friends during his 48 years of transporting Mansfielders to all parts of the city, died unexpectantly Tuesday night of a heart attack in Cactus, Ariz. He and his wife had gone to Arizona March 1 to visit their son, Dale STEWARD, and family and had planned to start back to Mansfield today.
Never an accident. Mr. STEWARD had the enviable record of having worked 48 years in public transportation without ever having a serious accident. Born north of Mansfield, he lived in this area all his life and was a member of First English Lutheran Church; Mansfield Lodge, 35, F and AM; Commandery 19, Knights Templar, and the Valley of Dayton Consistory, Scottish Rite. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ollie KOHLER STEWARD; the son in Cactus Ariz., a daughter, Mrs. Margaret FRASHER, nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; a brother, A.C. STEWARD, and a sister, Mrs. Martin WOLFORD, both of Mansfield. Funeral Arrangements, in charge of J.H. Finefrock and Sons Funeral Home, are incomplete.
